Wilkinson is thrilled to announce its Newbury stores continued support of the charity Greatwood. The store, which is one of over 350 across the UK, is situated on Northbrook Street and has raised over £500 for the Marlborough based charity, which cares for retired racehorses and children with special needs.

Greatwood provides for children with special educational needs through their interaction in unique programmes of rehabilitation and education in a secure and caring environment. The charity uses Horse Power as a valuable starting point in supporting children with special needs who are having difficulty managing their behaviour.  Their work not only supports the children but also those that work with them in schools and the care system.  Visiting teachers, teaching assistants, carers and parents have the opportunity to see the children in a different environment and learn from their interactions with the animals and other children.

Store Manager Nigel Morrison says; ‘We’ve made a varied amount of donations to Greatwood since the start of this year. In January we donated just over £160, which helped buy items such as brooms and cleaning products. We also supported a major fundraiser at Newbury Racecourse and donated just over £75 in February and in May over £110 was donated to help towards the purchase of a wide variety Wilkinson Garden products including seeds, planters and tools. Not forgetting that local Newbury customers to the store generously helped us to donate a further £150’.

Melanie Gee is the Fund raiser for Greatwood and says; ‘We are absolutely astounded by the fantastic support offered to our charity by Nigel Morrison, his staff and the customers of Wilkinson's Newbury.  They have been one of our most generous and thoughtful supporters, and it is as a result of their contribution that we were able to plant our 2011 summer classroom garden.  We can't thank them all enough!’
